Jesse Lentz
is an abstract geometric painter and digital artist from San Diego, California. He studied Digital Art at the University of Oregon and has developed his style since 2015 through experimentation with line, shape, and spatial relationships across acrylic, ink, and digital media.
Working under the alias subcon_, he reflects his interest in accessing the subconscious to generate ideas. Influenced by the Surrealists automatism, his process often involves making intuitive, indeterminate marks, allowing forms to emerge naturally rather than through strict planning.
His work centers on freehand lines that vary in length, width, and angle, embracing imperfection to create rhythm, texture, and movement. Through repetition and geometric forms, he builds compositions that suggest structure—sometimes referencing real-world objects—while maintaining abstraction.
Balancing dense forms with open space, Lentz creates dynamic compositions where positive and negative space interact. Mistakes and irregularities are incorporated into the work, reinforcing a process rooted in experimentation, instinct, and discovery.
